What about those people whose services you may use but who are not your employees?
Ensure that you are clear about the distinctions between these groups of workers, and that
you don't treat them as employees - thus unwittingly giving them employment rights.

What's new?
The EU Employment and Social Affairs Council has reached agreement on the draft
Agency Workers' Directive. The current UK proposals are
that this will give agency workers the right to at least the same basic working
and employment conditions as a permanent comparator after 12 weeks in a given job.
The HMRC has also announced forthcoming changes re VAT on agency fees, and also
as from 27 October 2008, agency workers will become entitled to SSP from day one of
their jobs.
See agency workers.
Take care re casual workers - a recent case found that continuity of employment
was preserved during period when no work was offered or done - see
employment status.
We've added a new non executive directors services agreement to
our template agreements.
