Now you've found your ideal candidate, what do you need to do to
get him or her "up and running" as quickly as possible? What pre-appointment
checks do you need to make?
Checking the right to work in the UK
Foreign nationals and work permits
Taking up references
Criminal records and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks
Checking the right to work in the UK: an ID card issued under the
Identity Cards Act 2006 is an acceptable document when checking an individual's
right to work in the UK. Read our guide on checking the
right to work in the UK.
Qualifications: a senior NHS HR manager pleaded guilty to six counts
of fraud by false representation when she (falsely) claimed she held certain qualifications on a job
application. Do ensure that you ask to see evidence of all relevant qualifications, as
well as checking the driving licences of anyone required to drive on business.
Foreign workers: there have been further changes to the points-based immigration
system. See foreign workers.
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups: see our new page on the
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act.
